Overview

Enterprise-grade access control at startup speed

The customer had just leased a new office to serve as an engineering center. The timeline was aggressive: the facility needed to be secured immediately so engineers and sensitive equipment could move in. While some physical door infrastructure remained from the prior tenant, there was no configured security software, no working access control program, and no internal security staff to stand it up.

IoT Hybrid Solutions mobilized immediately and delivered a Genetec-based access control solution that aligned to real operational workflows (employee lifecycle, visitors, deliveries, and sensitive zones). The program was deployed as a managed service to avoid upfront capital expense and ensure long-term operational ownership.

Challenge

A secure move-in without a security team

The customer's requirement was straightforward: the space must be secure within one week. The constraints made the problem harder:

  • No configured access control software in place
  • No on-staff security team to define policies, roles, or operating procedures
  • High-value IP and equipment arriving on a fixed schedule
  • Preference to avoid large upfront spend while ramping the new location
What secure meant in practice
  • Immediate building access control for staff and contractors
  • Role-based access for sensitive areas (labs, storage, restricted rooms)
  • Onboarding / offboarding workflows with rapid credential revocation
  • Visitor and delivery handling that didn't slow down operations
  • Auditability (logs, alerts, reporting) from day one
Approach

Use cases first, then configuration, then operations

IoT's priority was to avoid "install first, figure out policy later." The engagement began with rapid discovery to define the way the customer actually operates-then the access control configuration was built around those workflows.

Security use case consulting (rapid discovery)
  • Building access and role-based access by zone
  • Employee onboarding and orientation workflows
  • Employee termination and immediate access revocation
  • Visitor management process (host notification, escorted vs unescorted)
  • Package delivery access and controlled handoff
Solution

Genetec-powered access control-fully managed

The solution was designed for speed without sacrificing enterprise controls. Where possible, IoT reused existing door panels, contacts, and locking hardware to accelerate time-to-production, while standardizing the access control program in Genetec for long-term scalability.

Access control configuration & system design

IoT implemented a comprehensive configuration that covered day-one operations and future growth:

  • Access policies and role/group structures (staff, visitors, contractors, executives)
  • Locations, doors, and security zones
  • Clearance levels and time schedules
  • Badge creation, assignment, and revocation
  • Access logs, audit trails, alerts, and reporting
  • Backup and recovery practices for operational resilience
On-site assessment (same week)

IoT performed a full site survey and security analysis to validate existing infrastructure, confirm the fastest production path, and align the configuration to real entry points and sensitive areas.

Managed service deployment (no upfront investment)

The customer adopted a managed service contract to enable immediate deployment without capital expense, while ensuring the system remained supported and continuously improved after go-live.

Managed services

Continuous ownership: monitoring, support, reporting

Most integrators treat security as a one-time install. This deployment was structured as a living operational program: IoT remained engaged after commissioning to monitor, support, and extend the customer's access control environment over time.

Remote services
  • Continuous monitoring of system health, uptime, and alerts
  • Technical support (business hours)
  • Configuration support (business hours)
  • 24x7 email intake with a 4-hour response SLA for incidents
  • Maintenance of backups and disaster recovery protocols
  • Software and firmware updates
On-site services
  • Monthly site visits (walk-throughs validating doors, readers, and system health)
  • On-site end-user training as requested
  • On-site critical incident resolution as required
Documentation & deliverables
  • Installed and commissioned access control system
  • User clearance matrix (who can access what, when)
  • Monthly system health and access audit reports
  • Training materials and quick-start guides
Results

Move-in met, IP protected, operations simplified

  • Facility secured within one week of initial contact
  • Engineers moved in on schedule
  • Sensitive equipment and intellectual property protected from day one
  • No internal security staff required
  • No upfront capital expenditure
Why this worked

The program succeeded because it treated access control as operations-use cases, roles, and workflows were defined upfront, and the deployment included a managed service model that kept the system healthy, auditable, and adaptable.

Ongoing value

Built to scale-without rebuilding

Built on the Genetec platform, the solution was designed to remain secure, reliable, and extensible as the customer grew. IoT continued supporting:

  • Ongoing configuration changes and access policy updates
  • Employee lifecycle management (rapid onboarding/offboarding)
  • New doors and zone deployments
  • Expansion into video surveillance and intrusion sensors as needed
  • Scaling to additional offices, buildings, and warehouses
Expansion

Warehouse secured under the same managed service agreement

During the first year, the customer acquired an additional 10,000 sq. ft. unsecured warehouse. Under the same managed services contract, IoT extended access control and video monitoring to the new facility-keeping centralized policy, consistent operations, and a single support model.

Conclusion

Enterprise security without enterprise drag

This project demonstrates how IoT Hybrid Solutions delivers enterprise-grade physical security at startup speed: rapid deployment, operationally grounded system design, and long-term managed ownership. The result is a security program that protects people and assets on day one-and evolves alongside the business.
